Gland Packing Chesterton Style 1400R reinforced braided graphite is a unique packaging tape designed to handle both pump and valve applications. There are two tiered reinforcement systems used in the 1400R to make it extrusion resistant and capable of withstanding high operating pressures.
Due to its thermal characteristics, the packaging is capable of sealing many applications with little or no leakage, minimizing the number of flushes required. Unlike synthetic yarn types, this graphite/carbon packing is not completely dependent on the cooling and lubrication provided by the flush.
Each strand of graphite is reinforced with carbon filaments, and the overall braid is reinforced with additional strands of carbon thread. The outstanding thermal conductivity and extreme temperature resistance of this packing graphite make it an excellent choice for water management programs.
Compressible graphite tape yarn combined with carbon reinforcement makes packaging a good sealing choice on equipment with multiple sleeves, shafts or stuffing boxes for wear or imperfections. It could mean extended service time before the pump has to be removed or an expensive sleeve or shaft replacement. In addition to its excellent sealing ability in rotating equipment, 1400R is a superior sealing valve material.
