Gland Packing 329 Stern-Lon® is square weave -braided to provide the usual supple, formable packaging. Long-fibered fiber base, roved hemp of the highest quality. 329 is graphite free to avoid galvanic corrosion of the shaft.
During production, the first 329s are impregnated with a concentrated PTFE dispersion to promote non-flowing lubrication and to inhibit degradation. This is followed by plasticizing "break-in" the lubricant which ensures compressibility, flexibility, and good pack-to-shaft contact. large sizes do not need to be hammered into place. Finally, in order to minimize frictional friction, a finely divided fluorocarbon powder is embedded into the packaging surface. The Chesterton 329 produces little or no shaft or sleeve wear.
